A week in the life of a VaxWorks Nurse

Our immunisation nurse, Lou, ready to head out to a vaccination clinic next to the VaxWorks van.

As our flu vaccination clinics for the 2025 flu season begin, we wanted to share with you the variety of work that our nurses can perform in one week.

We’ll be following Lou, who’s been with the VaxWorks team in Brisbane for 8 years.

First aid training

As a qualified First Aid trainer, Lou went out to a local Brisbane business to train their staff in CPR. Keeping your CPR qualifications up to date is a requirement for several industries, such as education.  It’s also an excellent life-skill to have.

Mentoring new staff

On Tuesday, Lou joined our new nurse, Lev, at his very first VaxWorks Health Services Flu Clinic. As part of our commitment to providing exceptional services, we try to ensure that all new staff have a buddy that goes along with them to their first clinic. This allows them to ask any questions, or to work through any teething problems they may have. Of course, we also have our brilliant customer service staff in the office to support our nurses while they’re on the road.

Travelling to vaccinate for Japanese Encephalitis

VaxWorks offers a huge range of occupational immunisations. At the end of the week, Lou travelled out west in the VaxWorks van to vaccinate staff at a rural site for Japanese Encephalitis. Many staff chose to get vaccinated for the flu at the same time – an easy way to be ready for seasonal illness!

Japanese Encephalitis is spread by mosquitoes, and there has been an increase in cases in late 2024/early 2025 in Queensland. You can read more about Japanese Encephalitis on the Queensland Department of Health’s website.

Let a nurse like Lou help you!

Our staff love the variety that working for VaxWorks offers them.
